Two new life science companies set to launch

The Michigan Life Science Network said it plans to launch two new companies – MichiganVirtual BioPharma Co. and Michigan Virtual Medical Device Co. – to help further business opportunities in the life science segment.

The Kalamazoo-based private enterprise business cooperative that works to stimulate greater interest in and increased funding of the life science area said the new companies will debut on Oct. 16 on the group’s Web site www.milifesciencenetwork.com. A Virtual Company Launch Party will be held October 16 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Tavern on the Square in Downtown Lansing.

“We want to create new life science business for the state of Michigan,” said Luise cq spelling-abm Barnikel, a project coordinator with Michigan Life Network. “I think we have several industries that are declining and we believe our true potential in the state lies in the life sciences.”

Michigan Virtual BioPharma and Michigan Virtual Medical Device will be unveiled at an exhibit during the MichBio Expo annual convention in Lansing next week. MichBio is the statewide trade association to drive life science industry growth in Michigan.

The companies will have office locations in Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo and TechTown in Detroit.

“These new LLCs will pull together the knowledge and qualifications of the 600 plus human life science companies scattered across the state and organize them into a functional cooperative full service pharmaceutical company and full service device company for the first time and then, market them across the nation and the world,” said Michael Debiak, president of Michigan Life Science Network.
